January 18 meeting, should be interesting!

As David Lewis mentioned in November, this month's meeting on the 18th at the Hermitage Golden Corral will showcase the debate between Universal Handgun Carry (also called permit-less, Vermont-style, or Constitutional carry) and our current system of state-required permits.

I fully expect to have my meager arguments artfully skewered by the reams of evidence and many decades of debate experience of Bob Pope. But, I will do my best to present my points with the intelligence that God gave me and the few tidbits of information I have gathered. I doubt that either of use will change anyone's mind. But the discussion should be informative and help us shape our positions for where Tennessee should go with regard to our firearms rights.

In addition to our discussion of our new legislature and what we can expect this year, it should be an interesting evening. I hope to see many of you there.

I believe the push should be for carry similar to AK or AZ. VT has no permit, so its residents have reciprocity difficulties. AK & AZ have "optional" permits so reciprocity isn't a problem. (I realize some states have non-resident permits, but collecting those of multiple states can be expensive, and some states only honor permits if the bearer is a resident of the issuing state.)
