July 2009 Meeting

Postby Tim Nunan » Tue Jun 30, 2009 2:50 pm

The July meeting of the Tennessee Firearms Association Lakeway Chapter will be held on Tuesday evening, the 21st of July, 2009.

This meeting will be an open discussion on “myths” about Handgun Carry Permits and the recently passed firearms laws, e.g., where you can carry (and relevant restrictions).

Our meeting place is the Shoneys Family Restaurant at 1933 West Andrew Johnson Highway (Hwy 11E), Morristown TN. This restaurant is located 1/2 block east of the West Andrew Johnson highway (Hwy 11E) and Morris Blvd intersection, more or less across from the Home Depot. There is a large, highly visible sign in front along with plenty of parking space. A pre-meeting social hour is from 6 PM to 7 PM during which you may want to eat dinner. The meeting will begin promptly at 7 PM and end at 8 PM. Opportunity will be given to ask questions related to the topic.

Membership is not required - gun owners, 2nd Amendment supporters, and interested public are urged to attend. For more information contact Bill Kaylor 423 586 9121/email w9dsm@charter.net or Tim Nunan 423-586-8459/email bentcreek@outdrs.net.

Senator Steve Southerland's office has informed me that the Senator will be at this meeting and available to discuss the guns laws passed and discussed in this session of the Assembly.

July 2009 Meeting recap

Postby Tim Nunan » Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:06 pm

Senator Southerland answered many questions on the recent gun bills and what it took to get them passed. Apparently the restaurant carry bill was an issue whose time had come and there was little doubt that it would pass in the current Assembly.

The local option for the park carry bill was a virtual necessity in order for the bill to pass. Needless to say the Senator heard many opinions on this to include one that suggested that option be reconsidered once some time had passed and the HCP holders proved not to be a problem.

Some of the misunderstandings surrounding where we can carry were discussed but most the time was devoted to allowing the Senator to respond to questions. As many of the attendees still desired to address the announced meeting subject we may schedule this for a future meeting.

Bill Kaylor reminded us of the TFA Constitutional Action Fund that has been created which would allow the TFA to challenge anti gun issues that may come to court.
