Republican Chuck Bates today announced his bid for State Representative for District 83. The district covers east Memphis and most of Germantown. He is seeking to replace retiring Representative Joe Kent.
Bates, 31, a resident of the district for over 10 years, is a finance trained professional with an MBA from Florida Christian University. He is a successful businessman and is Vice President and News Director for the Information Radio Network, a national news and talk radio network providing news and programming to several hundred stations across the country daily. He previously served as an aide in the White House Office of Political Affairs working under the first Bush Administration for President George H.W. Bush.
Mr. Bates believes that government spending is out of control and that fiscal responsibility of the peoples hard earned tax dollars must come first. Mr. Bates is against a state income tax and as a businessman understands that everyone must live within his or her means and this applies to state government too. Mr. Bates noted; “I believe my experience and training in business, finance and economics gives me an advantage to understanding and correcting the financial mess career politicians in Nashville have put upon the people of this great state. It is time we had local representation that truly represents the people of the district while protecting our hard earned dollars from the special interests groups who would rather vote themselves a living than work for a living. I look forward to the opportunity to work with like minded members of the legislature to control and reduce spending.†He went on to say; “Tennessee is a great place to live and raise a family. As a fifth generation Tennessean, I want to make sure our children and grandchildren continue to have a wonderful place to grow up and raise families themselves. With the support of the voters of District 83 we will do just that.â€
Chuck Bates serves on the editorial board of the internationally circulated Monetary & Economic Review as well as the board of directors of Teen Challenge of Memphis, a faith based drug and alcohol treatment program with an 85% success rate. Among his other community involvement, Chuck is a member of the Gideons International and serves as assistant treasurer for the East Shelby County Republican Club. Mr. Bates attends Kirby Woods Baptist Church in Memphis.
