Shelby County Commission rejects safety, sense & rights

Postby Pat McGarrity » Mon Jul 13, 2009 10:49 pm

The Shelby County Commission voted to ban legal guns in their parks today. Several citizens spoke against the ban, including me and TFA Members Sam Cooper and Hal Rounds. The only supporters addressing the Commission in support of the ban were county employees.

We were supported by Commissioners Flynn, Avery and Bunker and that is much appreciated. Special thanks to Commissioners Bunker and Avery for their well said efforts to talk some sense into their colleagues.

Of particular note were the RINO votes against our civil rights by Carpenter and Ritz. How they keep their seats is simply a matter of the uninformed, apathetic electorate. The Democrat appointee in District 4, interloper, Commissioner Kuhn, voted to violate our civil rights and spoke proudly of his ignorant leftist bias against gun owners. Surely, we can fire him, if he chooses to run in that position.

Lastly, Commissioner Brooks made a theatrical speech in which she used the phrase; "a stupid permit". When I spoke I reminded Commissioner Brooks that her own daughter was a permit holder. She not only didn't comment, I never saw her look up as the facts were presented to her.

The audio of all this should be posted here soon:

No specific incident could be sited for supporting the ban. So, bigotry and prejudice won the day at the Shelby County Commission and safety, common sense and civil rights suffered yet another blow.

In Disgust,
