An open letter to the Mayors and Gun Owners of Shelby County:

Dear Shelby County Neighbors:

Our Shelby County Mayor, A.C. Wharton, is a member of N.Y. Mayor, Michael Bloomberg's Anti-Gun Mayors Coalition.

The New York Sun printed this about the group today:

"The 109 mayors have signed a pledge that says they will oppose any federal legislation that would make it harder for cities to track gun sales or that would "interfere with the ability of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to combat illegal gun trafficking."

While this may have good intentions, it is a very broad, and open ended, pledge. This could certainly include registration lists, that have traditionally lead to confiscation and any other unconstitutional measures proposed in the name of safety. This is how the outlawing of private gun ownership in England and Australia; which lead to massive increases in violence against their citizens, started.

The NRA-ILA has launched the following page with regards to Mayor Bloomberg's Anti-Gun Mayors Coalition:

http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Feder ... px?id=2533

It contains a complete list of mayors who have joined the anti-gun coalition as well as sample letters to be used to contact these public officials. There are two types of sample letters - one to mayors already in the coalition, and one requesting the mayor not join.

Obviously, the criminals are already armed. We should let our mayors know that disarming honest citizens only enables predators to be more violent. Thank you for your time.

In Liberty,
