Sadly, Kristy and I live in an area of Bartlett that Sen. Jim Kyle (D-Memphis/Bartlett) has the responsibility of "representing". His reply, regarding his position on SB 1597, to my repeated e-mails, and phone call to his office is a typical, jellyfish-like, politician's non-answer.
For those of you that don't know, Sen. Kyle refers to Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Holders as; "Gun Freaks". Kyle was quoted in the Memphis Commercial Appeal on April 16, 2001 saying: "I'm smart enough not to try and raise $2.00 from gun freaks." This ignorant, bigoted slur was in reference to a proposed plan to reduce crowding at our licensing facilities.
Soon, I'm going to post a collection of public quotes, by Tennessee Democrats, speaking about our Gun Rights. From Gov. Bredesen's double speak on SB 1597 and Speaker, Jimmy Naifeh, "dising" the NRA, to the ludicrous question by Tennessee's Grim Reaper of Gun Rights, Janis Sontany; "Why would you go somewhere dangerous where you would need a gun?" They are all entitled to their misguided opinions, but we shouldn't let them have it both ways at election time.
Sen. Jim Kyle on SB1597 3-28-07:
"SB 1597, as amended, is on today's floor calander. I will vote for the amended bill. I never commit as to how I will vote until the bill is calandered because it can change through amendments.
I appreciate your interest.
Thank you."
If you haven't yet contacted your State Senator and Representative on supporting SB 1597 and HB 1285, please do so, TODAY. The vote is TODAY! The toll free number to the legislature in Nashville is: 1-800-449-8366. Thanks!
