There really is not a good answer.
Most of the weapons laws are in the Tennessee Code under 39-17-1301 and following.
However, there are also many laws in the wildlife resources act, in various other statutory provisions, in numerous state regulations and also in many local ordinances at the city and county level that our general assembly refuses to pre-empt.
There is also confusion because, for example, under state law if you have a handgun permit, you can carry in state parks BUT state parks are not required post signs that clearly state this. Instead, old signs that say simply "no guns" are posted in most parks under the theory that permit holders would know those signs do not apply to them.
Hire a lawyer. Have them ride with you.

Or just carry discreetly concealed and shut up...like all the muggers and rapists seem to be able to do.

Personally I would love to see the TN Handgun Carry Permit process SIMPLIFIED and divorced from TN DMV!! Why do we have to go stand in line behind dozens of illegals waiting to get DLs???? The 'form' and finger prints could easily be done AT/after the shooting class in 25 minutes. The instructors at the class are easily capable of looking at a passport photo!!! They take finger prints often (4473s) and so on,.....all that crap could be done at one time after we shoot and the whole shebang sent in to the state asap. DMV has nothing to add and lots to be deleted in the process. Rant off!!
