That article is a remarkably even-handed treatment of the subject; to find such an article on MSNBC is, frankly, amazing.
A few thoughts…
It’s laughable that when the anti-gun nuts don’t have any evidence to support their position they see absolutely nothing wrong with just making things up such as here... “Rand, the spokeswoman for the Violence Policy Center, acknowledged that “we don’t have centralized data-gathering to know what people are doing with these licenses (But) anecdotally, we know they’re doing quite a bit of harm,”
I note that the author goes into some detail regarding an overall lack of real evidence that specifically links the observed decrease in violent crime/firearm deaths to the increase in the number of carry permit holders and equally cites the lack of evidence that the increase in permit holders has been the blood bath predicted by the anti-gun nuts. But I think that all misses the point.
For me, I really don’t care if violent and/or gun related crime decreases or not, I simply want to be able to defend myself well in the event that I’m a target of a violent crime!
My final though is, isn’t it sad that we have to have this public debate in the first place! Isn’t it sad that everyone, from the Chief Justice on down can’t simply read “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” and understand what it means and that it means what is says!
