I can think of a lot of adjectives for this proposal…Abhorrent…Chilling…Disgusting…Un-American… Repugnant and many more but I’m not certain that it’s necessarily unconstitutional or that any law instituting a national ID system could be overturned on that basis.
We already have a de facto “national ID card” called a Social Security card; the number being used by just about any entity, public and private, that keeps “records” of their interaction with people---every state issues driver’s licenses and/or “ID cards”…of course, no one is required to have one or the other but try to do anything that requires you to show “who” you are without a DL or a state ID.
You already aren’t supposed to be hired for work in this country without filling out an I9 which requires the person show proper ID (birth certificate, DL, passport, etc, etc.).
I detest the idea of a “national ID card” but I doubt it can be stalled with claims of it being unconstitutional…the only way these sorts of measures can be defeated it by putting the right people in office.

4th Amendment, & 10th Amendment Violation, "Powers not delegated." Similarly, When I get my 'census', I will also put how many people are in my household, & send it back to them.. Nothing else will be answered.. Again, 4th & Tenth Amendment.. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the Government the right to any more information & freedom from tyranny & unreasonable search & seizure is an inalienable, God given right. Therefore, the US Government is violating our Constitution on a number of levels.. Robert, you mentioned some things that are also violations (like I-9 forms).. Not sure why.. That's like saying that if a criminal has raped before, it's ok to keep doing it, & justifies subsequent rapes..

Ron Paul lays out the case against it pretty well here:
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4098013/rep- ... l-id-issueNotice he also calls it unconstitutional.. He's a US Congressman of long tenure, so I think it's fair to say he has some credibility on the issue..
