Nashville metro council and park carry

Postby backwoodsman » Thu May 21, 2009 12:29 pm

the following is the letter i sent to every single member of the nashville metro council concerning park carry,as some may or may not know they oppose the park carry citing disallowing law abiding citizens the right to legally carry in parks will make children safe. the letter sent as follows:

SUBJECT: PARK CARRY

To all concerned,

F.B.I. statistics bear out clearly, that where excessive gun restrictions are in place, criminal activity flourishes. period. Criminals do not read nor head any law, especially one's concerning firearms. When you restrict law abiding, permit carrying citizens from their 2nd ammendment right to keep and bear arms, you are infringing their right to protect themselve's their family and quite possibly innocent 3rd party victims.

Criminals are aware of gun free zone's and pay no heed to them,in fact, they look at it as opportunity .As long as there are criminals, this will be a fact, you need only check, that's right ,go ahead and actually look at the F.B.I. statistics,it's free to look.Disarming law abiding citizen's only encourage's criminal activity. Your logic is flawed in believing that disarming the law abiding citizen keeps children safe, ask the parents of columbine students,or virginia tech,or even more recently on the campus of T.S.U.

I'm sure they will disagree with you. There are not enough law enforcement officers to assign one to every citizen, most time's the law enforcement officer arrive's to the aftermath of crime, this is not their fault. The war against crime is the job of every citizen.

We are a society based in trust,I trust you not to harm me nor steal from me, however the opportunist and criminal element that will always exist, has not the moral's or principle's of the law abiding, and to hamper the good citizen's ability to protect his or her own life, put's the power in the hands of the evil element's of our society. In 1934 Adolph Hitler enacted sweeping gun regulations stripping his citizens of the right to own or use any firearm's ,promising a safe society to which the entire world would soon follow..I think we know the results.

When we fail to learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat our downfall's. History does not lie,it simply is.

i have heard back from 4 different council members, yes you guessed it, they are amoung the members who voted for gunrights, the last reply i received as follows:

Thanks for sharing with all my colleagues! I proudly voted for our second amendment rights on the resolution (pasted below) and will continue to support our rights. Please ask the state house rep in your area to support your right by prohibiting local governments from taking them away. I have highlighted the particularly offensive and highly ignorant language included in the resolution that passed last Tuesday. It is a good thing that it is non-binding, but if the state fails to prohibit local action, the council will likely have the votes to take away our rights.

Keep up the fight,

RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-790

A resolution opposing legislation currently pending in the Tennessee General Assembly that would preempt local governments from prohibiting the carrying of firearms in local parks.

WHEREAS, Section 13.24.440 of the Metropolitan Code prohibits persons from possessing any firearms within Metropolitan Government parks; and

WHEREAS, legislation is currently pending in the Tennessee General Assembly that would allow licensed gun owners to carry firearms in any local or state park; and

WHEREAS, allowing firearms in local parks would greatly endanger the safety of park visitors, especially children who are looking for a safe place to play; and

WHEREAS, local legislative bodies should have the freedom and authority to prohibit firearms in parks for the safety of its citizens; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that local governments retain control over enacting appropriate restrictions on the possession of firearms in parks.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as opposing legislation currently pending in the Tennessee General Assembly that would preempt local governments from prohibiting the carrying of firearms in local parks.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

I will attempt more correspondence with the sponsor's listed, they seem to be the primary instigators of this nonsense, when government and elected officials trust the criminal element more ,not to strike ,than they do law abiding citizens to be responsible it is a clear indication the wrong officials have won office!!!,, this is just nashville, obviously there needs to be language on the state level that pre-empts these actions thus eliminating these little strong hold cells of liberalism, i dont trust the criminal element to be non-criminal in their day to day actions whatsoever. yet it seems the liberal mind set trust's the criminal over the law abiding citizen, these are the same peoples that create litigious organizations, hampering police work as well as the rights of law abiding citizens. if you live in davidson county ,join me in pressuring these council members, if you dont , join in an effort to eliminate that portion of the state level legislation the remands rights to the local level parks,, I'm no lawyer so if i'm incorrect, correct me, all i know is ,it is ludicrous to believe a child or parent is safe because of a yellow sign ,stating,,,gun free zone.,, now if they make it a neon flashing sign that speaks out loud, so the criminals cant miss it, then maybe it will attract enough criminals to where they shoot each other,, haaa,,, gun restrictions and gun free zones, do not work, period, they do work to endanger the rights of honest law abiding citizens and that is all.

What we are going to find is that Metro's council is so full of control-liberals that we are probably going to see every piece of Metro owned grass put under the "parks" administration and closed. But these are the same Pelosi-class liberals who are going to tax Nashville into prosperity - which means that they are going to take payroll and savings from others to build the kind of Nashville that "they" want.

i agree that most are that type, but not all, and there is a reason we vote, and write and phone our representatives to try and promote change, so that being the case it still wont deter me from being heard and despised, hahaa, not any different than state and fed level and no less important .corruption at any level is something to be eradicated. in the meantime, i wont participate in their parks and let it be known to the elected that their parks are discriminatory as well as their laws. In terms of lament, your right john.

But it may be a blessing in disguise to force conservatives to take local politics seriously.
