Maybe someone will ask for an Attorney General's opinion on carrying in national parks in Tennessee since it is now legal to carry in national parks

Tennessee's Attorney General's office is notorious for issuing opinions that go against permit holders and gun owners whenever there is the least degree of doubt as to the legal outcome. We are better off pushing the Republican controlled legislature to fix the doubt and any problems legislatively.

I heard a discussion on this new law on Talk Radio the other day, and as I understand it to be, the law goes something like this:

"You may now carry your loaded gun in a National Park so long as: 1). You have the proper permit to do so, and , 2). The state in which you are at the time, allows Carrying in Parks."

That 2nd part is the one that gets us. Tennessee (as a state law) does not allow carry into Parks, so we can not carry into a National Park within this state until Tennessee changes its state law.

That is how it was explained on the radio.
It's best to let the world "Think" you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I did a talk radio spot on Bob Pope's Guns and Politics that airs on Saturdays at 11 to 12noon on WAMB Nashville on the 6th. That was one of the topics we discussed.

At this point we have uncertainty in Tennessee on the federal parks and forests because of 1) the parks statute - 39-17-1311 and a misinterpretation of its by the TN AG, 2) TWRA and its statute under Title 70 concerning possession in places inhabited by "big game"; and 3) the posting statute and possible control over some of these properties (e.g., WMA's) by TWRA.

We have had several chances in the past to address some of these problems but Speaker Naifeh, his shadow operatives and those Democrats and Repbulicans who repeatedly voted Jimmy Naifeh into power are substantially the reason why 2nd Amendment legislation such as this was defeated historically in Tennessee

If Jimmy Naifeh's efforts to regain the Speaker's office are thwarted in January 2009, then we have hope that things might change.

WASHINGTON -- An anti-gun group is suing to stop a last-second Bush administration change that would allow Americans to carry concealed, loaded guns in most national parks and wildlife refuges.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence sued the Interior Department in federal court on Tuesday.

They want a federal judge to stop the elimination of a 25-year-old federal rule severely restricting loaded guns in national parks.

The previous regulation required that firearms be unloaded and placed somewhere that is not easily accessible, such as inside a car trunk. But in January, visitors will be able to carry a loaded gun into a park or wildlife refuge if the person has a concealed weapon permit and if state law also allows concealed firearms.
