Restricted at Work

Postby linmjone » Fri Apr 17, 2009 11:27 am

New carry permit holder and I'm trying find out if something is true or not.
I am currently working somewhere that has it posted that do not allow carrying on the premise and have it listed in our handbook that our vehicles are considered parked on their property are available for search. I have been told that somewhere out there is says I can legally leave my gun in the car at my work place if they do not allow them inside.
Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? I would really like to find documentation that backs this up if it is true so that I can keep it for reference.

Not true.

There was a bill in the House Criminal Practices subcommittee last week that, if it became law, would allow employees to leave their firearm in the vehicle even if parked on company property. It was lobbied hard by employers - such as Federal Express - who opposed it. It was sent to summer study committee which is where it will likely die in that format.

Only 10 states have a law of this type at the present and TN is not one of them.
