Permit renewal question

Postby tjy2001 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 11:59 pm

I sent in my renewal form for my permit back in May, but have yet to see the new one. I used the form they sent that was on the back of the renewal notice, and the check has been cashed. I did some checking and found that the web site has a notice that certified proof of us citizenship needs to be provided for all applications, even renewals, it gives a list of documents they want, no copies, and the documents will not be returned. Is this true for renewals? I do not remember that being on the renewal notice when I received it. So do I need to re-send a new application and $50 fee? Shouldn't they already have this from when I originally applied for the permit?

Also, there is a downloadable PDF form on the HCP site. Will they accept that, or do i need the form they mail to you or from the drivers license stations?

Just need to know so I can the new application in the mail before my 6 months are up.
Thanks!

I did my renewal last August and it took a week. But now I heard they are real busy now. When I renewed my DL April 2007 I had to show my BC. If they have it on record that you showed your BC you should have no problem. I would give them a call and see what's up.

It all goes back to a paranoia about someone getting a permit who should not - like that is really going to stop anyone from carrying legally or illegally. They should reissue permits and the prosecute criminals when crimes are committed. Thinking that computer background checks are actually going to stop a crime is like passing liquor prohibition and thinking everyone is going to stop drinking.

Although Tennessee law requires a new application be acted on within 90 days there is no such time limit on renewals. I've been hearing stories of renewals taking up to 4 months. If you renew at an office your receipt for renewal will serve until the renewed card is delivered. I don't think you get a receipt if you renew on line so it would be hard, if not impossible, to prove that you've renewed your HCP.

Depends on what you write on the check that is submitted to TDOS with the application. I kept a copy of the application, mailed it return receipt and sent a personal check that will have a cleared date on it.
