FYI Renewals and duplicates

I talked to the state yesterday, they are running four months behide on renewals and and duplicate. They said that they were behide because they are doing back grounds on all renewals and duplicate permits.

When I called them I had a week left on my permit.They sent me a letter / a temporary permit for 90 days. Dept of Safety's number is 615-251-8590. hope this helps

I may call Tues. I made the mistake of waiting till mine was expired by a day or 2 . I didn't realize that the copy of the renewal application didn't count if you renew after it expires. Won't make that mistake again!

I sent in my instructor renewal on February 25. The certificate arrived May 24, with an issue date of March 15.

I had called DOS in late March and was told there was a backlog for issuing certificates.

I just moved to Waverly, and when I changed the address on my driver's license, I also turned in the form to change the address on my carry permit. I had just renewed it not 3 months before, though, and they let me keep it while waiting on the new one to be mailed out. Is that (along with the pink slip temp permit) sufficent to continue carrying legally?

As I understand the rules, as long as your permit isn't expired your copy of the applicaiton will serve as your temp with your old permit. I waitied until after mine was expired by a few days to renew. The application says that if it expires and you renew you must wait until your new permit arrives. Of course if it has been expired for 6 mos. then you have to take the whole class over and pay the initial fee.
