Youths and guns

On March 19, 1998 House Joint Resolution 589 was adopted.

"BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE-HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, That we honr and commend the National Rifle Association Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program. We strongly urge and recommend that Law Enforcement Agencies and School Systems in Tennessee utilize this exemplary program."

The question is how many school systems use this child safety program, particularly at the elementary level? Certainly it won't stop all the misuse of firearms by children but it is a proven, effective tool that all school systems should be offering.

It isn't free and some of the materials have to be reordered each year.

I strongly encourage each of us to urge our local school boards to utilize this program. The American Legion has been a strong supporter of this program throughout the US and I'm sure other groups could be convinced to do likewise.
